NAEA Art Standards

Often as artists we finish up an assignment at various times.  To use all of our time creatively and to increase skills a 'free draw' may be assigned.  The free draw fun of the week asked the children to draw their interpretation of Justin Timberlake's, Can't Stop the Feeling!

These were such fun and made for many laughs in class!  Great work friends ~  Enjoy!

Momentum Mounts ~ Celebrating Success

Teaching allows me to be creative too ~ What a fun opportunity to help plan for the upcoming year as we look forward to Celebrating Success. The first schoolwide Friday morning meeting was held today. It welcomed and encourgaged all to strive to do the best they can!  At CP Smith we pride ourselves on encourage positive behavior as we continually build a learning community that is respectful. responsible and safe for all!  The temperature will be rising as positive behaviors are earned and recogznized...once we get to the top with collected cat cards there will be a whole school celebration with a Popsicle Party!

The National Core Art Standards

The National Core Art Standards:  

The National Core Art Standards were  adopted  by the Vermont Agency of Education in February of 2016! 

(Beginning in the next 1-2 years, VT art teachers will have new, high quality standards from which to teach!)

SQUARE 1 ART

"IT ALL STARTS WITH ART"

We are working on the SQUARE 1  Art Fundraiser/Activity    This family focused fundraiser supports the PTO at CPSmith. The students in all grades get a chance to work thematically on their first project for the new year. This first art challenge asks the students to think, plan and draw their visual solution for the chosen design theme 2016:

  Fun in Vermont! 

I am excited to be doing this again as we begin school.  The children are engaged in planning for an idea and working with the Elements of Design to create their first compostion of the school year. Line - Shape - Color - Space - Value- Texture-Form. Not only is it a FUNdraiser but a good way for the students to practice and apply their art skills.  It provides me a baseline for each child as they work with basic art supplies/tools and ideas.   

Example:  National Core Art Standards -

3rd Grade: 

VA:Cr3.1.3a 

Elaborate visual information by adding details in an artwork to enhance emerging meaning. 

The students each draw a picture and color it in with markers on the cardstock provided.  The company will then print a specific catalog for each student with their art exhibited on the front.  Students can take these home to their families and review their order option if they choose.
